Application is done with a combination of brushes, rollers, and stainless-steel finishing trowels. This will allow correct layering and give the reflective aspect.
This finish is fully washable and suitable for kitchens and bathrooms in any residential or commercial application.
Moiré does not need to be sealed.
Urban Moiré as a Decorative Metallic finish
Typical Installation is as a reflective texture showing a background of gold or pearl in a suede-like structure, resembling silk. To apply with a brush a Striee is easy and accents the pearlescent background.
The overall area of application should be divided into manageable areas divided up into zones. This is particularly recommended for the less experienced user. Protect adjacent areas and floors, to remove dry product use warm water or mineral spirit, do not rub with abrasives.
We recommend a small test area be applied to test for adhesion where doubt is present over existing painted surfaces.
After Correct Surface Preparation, apply 1 or 2 thin coats to create a finish. It is very workable and is easy to apply and repair.
- Apply a full coat of Moiré cross-hatched, allow 15 minutes set time and apply a partial coat keeping the trowel flat to the surface.
- Apply a second coat once fully dry in the same way.
Urban Moiré can be rolled or with a combination of roll and trowel
The Roller Method
Use a microfiber 6” roller, as this tool makes it easy to apply in small arcs creating a textured random effect. When a small area is coated go back over with the roller without loading it with more material, this will smooth & help the reflective aspect of the product.
Roll & Brush Method
Roll out a small area of Urban Moiré product, then with the brush create a randomized texture.
Working into the wet edge move bit by bit filling the whole surface, brushing back into the wet Urban Moiré product as you go.
Roll & Blade Method
Apply a three-foot square, then taking a 6” scraper, flat blade moving the Urban Moiré product with small arced movements. Leave about three inches of the rolled area around the edge, so you can overlap and continue seamlessly the finish.
A Common Reason for Failure is Inadequate Surface Preparation
A careful inspection should be done prior to application for cracks, unsound surfaces and the hygrometry of the substrate. Before commencing application remove all loose dirt, grease and other contaminants that could prevent adhesion.
Prime the area with Sharktooth Primer in a colour that resembles the colour of the Moiré. The primer makes Moiré very easy to apply, so we recommend using it even if the surface is already painted.
All the above finishes are fully washable and durable for any residential or commercial application.
