Characteristics of Protek Intumescent Paint Products

COLOURLESS:

Will not stain or discolour wood. Retains original wood colour & qualities and adds the flexibility of natural decorative finish.

ODOURLESS:

Can use indoors. Does not require extensive ventilation. Suitable for application in existing, occupied areas as opposed to pre-treating.

SAFE:

Can be used in inhabited and food preparation areas. No restriction on use around people, plants or animals.

WATER BORNE CHEMICALS:

Leaves no oil or petroleum-based residue. Not dependent on petroleum products with a volatile supply and price. Is also compatible with a variety of materials and surfaces.

CONTAINS NO ASBESTOS OR HALOGENS:

Eliminates dependency on potentially banned products. Provides safety for installers and users.

REQUIRES NO SPECIAL CUTTING TOOLS:

Treated wood can be sawed, shaped and planed without special carbide tipped blades. Field cutting is easier and less expensive.

ADDS NO APPRECIABLE WEIGHT TO WOOD:

Wood is not crystallized, made inflexible or weakened and retains all its strength and characteristics. No special allowances for weight, strength or support need be made.

Fire Retardant Paints

Pyrologistix Fire Barrier Intumescent Paint

Heavy bodied, single part latex designed for use on structural steel, construction materials, framing lumber, trusses, drywall, doors and more. May also be used for conduit, decking and cladding.

When activated by heat or flame a dense carbon char is formed that separates and insulates the substrate from heat while off-gassing displaces oxygen from the treated surface.

Ocean Fire-Retardant Epoxy #477 manufactured by PROTEK

This Two-part Epoxy Fire Retardant Paint for metal dries to a smooth semi-gloss finish. Being highly durable and resistant to most chemicals, it is ideal for heavy industrial use and can be applied over a suitable primer, commercial solvent-based paints, and other coatings.

Ocean Fire-Retardant Epoxy #477 is Utilized in these Industries

This epoxy paint is formulated to meet military specifications and carries the Underwriters Laboratories certification as a flame retardant product.

Fire Poly

FIRE POLY may be applied to raw or previously finished wood as well as other surfaces that require elevated protection from the spread of flame.

Fire Poly

FIRE POLY may be applied to raw or previously finished wood as well as other surfaces that require elevated protection from the spread of flame. This water-based polymer is designed for Exterior applications on Un-Finished Wood or other porous building materials that require elevated protection from the spread of fire.

  • Non-Toxic and insoluble when dry, this water-based polymer is ideal for use inside or out.
  • FIRE POLY products may be over-coated with paints or other coatings to achieve desired end results.
  • Ideal for all your raw wood applications whether inside and out or on other porous or non-porous materials.

Fire Poly Paint Coverage

Wood Safe

Enjoy the warmth and beauty of natural wood without compromising safety!

Treated wood may be painted, varnished or left natural to suit your individual tastes and decor. You can spray, brush, roll Wood Safe then simply wash up with water.

Spraying may be accomplished with any type of sprayer, even a trigger or pump-up sprayer will work and any overspray is easily wiped up.

Wood Safe is tested at Underwriter’s Laboratories

Wood Safe has a Flame Spread rating of 35 and a Smoke Developed index of 95 when applied at a total coverage rate of 110 square feet per gallon.

Wood Safe is Non-Toxic

Provides some resistance to moulds, fungus, bacteria, termites and insects. Other uses may include straw, thatch, corrugated board and other porous natural fibres.

Water clean-up.

Shingle Safe

Shingle Safe is designed to protect exterior cedar shakes and shingles from fire. When applied at a total coverage rate of 120 square feet per gallon (usually in two to three passes) it will provide Class ‘C’ Flame Spread. Shingle Safe meets or exceeds the requirements of ASTM E108 fire test series of roof coverings including accelerated weathering conditions equivalent to 200 inches of rainfall or 5 years.

Fire Retardant Paints for Fabric Treatment

You can Treat Fabric on the Bolt!

Save time and money by treating and certifying your fabric on the bolt before it goes to the seamstress. Hotels and Nursing Homes have strict regulations regarding fire protection for fabric. Protek can provide a cost effective solution that many hospitality and building maintenance managers find attractive.

Give the Protek Painting a call and find a solution that fits for you.

Pyrologistix Inc. was commissioned to treat the fabric that would then be made into drapes and a large “Tartan” to decorate the new lounge in this Cornwall training center at NavCan.

How Flame Retardant Paint Works

PROTEK PyroLogistix products are safe, incredibly effective and environmentally friendly. They automatically react with fire or heat to convert combustible gases and tars to non combustible carbon char, nitrogen and carbon dioxide.

This chemical reaction causes the formation of a cleverly reinforced, dense “foam” layer or carbon char. This “foam” layer then acts as an insulating barrier separating the substrate from the flames. The nitrogen and carbon dioxide by-products from this reaction displace available oxygen right at the fuel source, thereby further suppressing the fire.

Professional Tip: Fuel, oxygen and a source of ignition are the three components necessary for fire. PyroLogistix products produce outstanding results by eliminating TWO of these three components, making them one of the finest lines of fire retardant and fire barrier products on the market today.

Incredible thermal protection is accomplished by building several stages into the reaction so that as temperature levels increase more protection is automatically provided. Simultaneously, water vapour is created and released so that it actually cools the substrate.

These factors combine to extend the level and duration of protection. Don’t be fooled by competitor’s extremely high intumescent char levels, they look good in a demonstration but are as fragile as a crystal goblet. The char has to be dense and strong to remain intact in the turbulence of a real fire.
